Utrecht most creative city

domdoorgangAccording to recent research Utrecht is the most creative city in the Netherlands. Compared to other cities it has the highest percentage of inhabitants with a creative profession: 33 percent to a national average of 19 percent. Think of scientists, researchers, innovative ICT folks, engineers, architects, TV producers, journalists, musicians, designers, new media folks, writers, artists and creative managers. A large creative class is good for the economy, but it will also change the way we live and work.

You might be interested to check out Richard Florida's book 'The Rise of the Creative Class'. He traces the growing role of creativity in our economy and describes the fundamental shift that is taking place from an organizational ethos (that permeated every aspect of life during the second half of the last century) to a creative ethos that is changing our values and tastes, our personal relationships, our choices of where to live, and even our sense and use of time.

Leading the shift in many diverse fields is the population group that creates for a living - the creative class. The choices these people make already had a huge economic impact, states Florida, and in the future they will determine how the workplace is organized, what companies will prosper or go bankrupt, and even which cities will thrive or wither.
